5th April 2024 by Agencies

The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB), together with the fishermen's guild of Maó, are joining the PescArt Menorca initiative, the circular and blue economy project promoted by Menorca Preservation and catalyzed through the Menorca Without Plastic Alliance. In this way, the port of Maó will participate in the recycling of discarded fishing nets.

The port of Maó is the third port on the island, after Ciutadella and Fornells, which has decided to join in the effort to recycle and give a second life to disused fishing nets.  Moreover, their integration further boosts the scope and impact of PescArt Menorca, not only in terms of the amount of nets collected and recycled, but also in the diversification and enrichment of artistic and artisanal creations.

In parallel to the collection and recycling of fishing nets, this initiative also offers a programme of workshops both specific for craftswomen and artists and for different groups. In addition, in the coming months PescArt Menorca will schedule two exhibitions of the artistic and craft creations created through the project, and will consolidate new lines of collaboration and research.

As a novelty this year, PescArt Menorca has also decided to incorporate other plastic waste with artistic potential, such as wetsuits and parasols.
