The sailor of the Club Nàutic Arenal, Bernat Tomás makes a comeback and wins the WFSS 2023 Mallorca

In the second and last part of the WFSS 2023 Mallorca, the majorcan Bernat Tomás accomplished to overtake Ángel Candel and win the queen category. On the other hand, Fernando Salgado managed to maintain first place in the twelve tests completed, as for that, he gained the highest position in the Advanced podium.

When the classic majorquín wind permitted to complete the five trials, the fleet of the Wing Foil Spain Series met up around ten o’clock at the hidden ‘cala’ of Es Caló to start the second and last test of the WFSS 2023 Mallorca.

Even though the thought was to begin the trials at twelve o’clock, a weak wind, not even eight knots and coming from earth, made it impossible for the foils to fly. Luckily the wait was not long given that the wind picked up about half past twelve and there it was between ten and fifteen knots on average, so the competition could start.

The majorcan Ángel Candel, who achieved a perfect first start with five first positions in the five tests, he could not maintain his spectacular results the seven trials of the second part and on the last day he was taken away from the winning position by one point.

The sailor of the Club Nàutic S’Arenal, Bernat Tomás who in the first day finished in second place in a draw with the argentinian Julián López, and then took advantage  of the bad day that Candel was having, and finalized the WFSS 2023 Mallorca in first place and Candel one point behind. 

Meanwhile Tomás was packing up he said: “We had a very good wind during the weekend sailing. Today in the first trial I fell, but luckily I was able to make a comeback and rule out that result. I am very happy because I was able to be first in the three trials, the rest of the tests have been quite close, competing next to Ángel, Arturo and Julián. Everything has been very dynamic and I have enjoyed it a lot.”

On the other hand, the argentinian living in Majorca Julián López, who was the leader in the past general competition, he became first position in the circuit in Ibiza of the first trial and then third in the first part of the draw with Tomás , he finished the WFSS 2023 Mallorca in fourth place with draw of points in third position, which was for the majorcan Arturo Madero.

Twelve tests and twelve first positions were crowned for Fernando Salgado as unbeatable leader of the Advanced category. Without giving any option of victory for the colleagues, Daniel Alcarón entrenched his second provisional position achieved in the first day, concluding seven seconds in the trials of the last part, which gave him the second definitive place of the WFSS 2023 Mallorca. In the end, the german Leo Kleine lost his provisional third spot which he accomplished in the first part by only one point difference from the new zealand Samuel Swinburn.
