The sailors Marisa Vicens and Marina Borrásset course to the World Championship of the 420

The sailors Marisa Vicens (Club Nàutic s’Arenal) and Marina Borrás (Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença) will represent Spain in the World Championship in the class 420 which will be contested at Brazil in January thanks to their triumph in the feminine category in the Copa AECI420, which has been disputed in the Club Nàutic El Masnou.

Marina Borrás and Marisa Vicens from the Balearic Islands were the best female pair of the championship, finishing the competition with 13 points, clearly beating their main rivals, Paula and Isabel Laiseca from the Canary Islands, who scored 29 points.

The AECI420 Cup brought together 58 crews in Catalan waters and had an "open" format, so that, in addition to the national athletes, German, Italian, Portuguese and English teams also took part in the event.  

The regattas were held in very difficult conditions due to the squall that has swept the Iberian Peninsula over the last few days, leaving strong winds and a lot of waves along the Mediterranean coast. In fact, a total of 12 races were scheduled for this AECI420 Cup and, due to the adverse weather conditions, only three races could be completed.

In addition to the victory in the women's category, Marisa Vicens and Marina Borrás have also climbed the podium of the overall absolute classification, where they have occupied the third position. The Mallorcans finished one point behind Miguel Ángel Morales and Alejandro Martín, who took second place, and two points behind the winners, the Catalans Pol Mateu and Alejandro de Maqua.

The other sailors from Club Nàutic S'Arenal, Neus Fernández and Martina Gomila, have also climbed to the top step of the podium of this AECI420 Cup in the U17 category. 

The athletes now have two months to prepare for the 420 class World Championship to be held in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) from the 3rd to 10th of January 2024, where more than 200 teams are expected to participate.
