The Spanish 420-X MedSailing Championship, held from April 16 to 19 in the waters of Club Nàutic El Balís, concluded with an overall victory by the team formed by Club Nàutic S’Arenal sailor Sofía Cavaco and Catalan sailor Pol Mateu (CN El Balís).

With this result, Mateu revalidates the title he won in 2024 in El Puerto de Santa María, and Cavaco—who was the female runner-up with Nicola Sadler—is now the overall and mixed champion. In the female category, the victory also went to Club Nàutic S’Arenal sailors Neus Fernández and Martina Gomila.

A total of eight races were held in the Maresme waters over the four days of competition. Although the event got off to a slow start due to light winds, once the fifth qualifying race was completed, the Final Series began, spanning the last two days. The racing was marked by many shifts and close competition, with the champion only decided in the final race.

Pedro Sotomayor and Quim Serra (RCN Barcelona) were the first to lead the Nationals after the initial two races. They were then overtaken by the Balearic crew of Neus Fernández and Martina Gomila heading into the final day. Everything was still up for grabs, and Bruno García (CN El Balís) and Isabel Laiseca (RCN Gran Canaria) scored three consecutive first-place finishes, making them strong contenders for the title. However, world champion Pol Mateu and Sofía Cavaco entered the Final Series on an upward trend, scoring two second-place finishes and a first, propelling them to overall victory.

The overall podium was made up of Pol Mateu and Sofía Cavaco as champions, followed by Bruno García and Isabel Laiseca, and Neus Fernández and Martina Gomila in third.

By categories, the Male/Mixed title went to Mateu/Cavaco and the Female title to Fernández/Gomila. In the Under-19 Male/Mixed category, the champions were Sotomayor/Serra, and in the Female category, Fernández/Gomila. In the Under-17 Female division, the winners were Amalia Coll/Laia Serena Mattos (CN S’Arenal/Can Pastilla), and in the Male/Mixed division, Pepe García/Oriol Costabella (RCN Barcelona).

A total of 76 crews from Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, the Canary Islands, Cantabria, Catalonia, the Valencian Community, Galicia, and the Basque Country participated, along with three crews from Portugal.
