The sailors of the Club Marítimo Mahón, Damián Borras and Sara Franceschi, World Champions of Snipe

The sailors of the Club Marítimo Mahón, Damián Borras and Sara Franceschi have been crowned world champions of Snipe Master 2023, in the Bay of Cadiz, after a last day in blank due to the strong easterly storm.

This way, Borras repeats again the title that he accomplished two years ago next to Jordi Triay. On this occasion the sailor of the Club Marítimo Mahón and his colleague Franceschi, have been awarded with the title of World Absolute and Master, the Trofeo Memorial Id Crook y el Trofeo Volvo to the first classified Master.

Next to them on the podium, two American couples with a heart-stopping track record to which they now add the silver and bronze medal of the 2023 World Masters and gold in their respective categories. They are Ernesto Rodríguez and Katheleen Tocke, world runners-up and champions of the Junior Masters division and the Diputación de Cádiz Trophy, and Olympian Augie Díaz and Christine de Silva, third in the world and champions of the Grand Masters division and the Junta de Andalucía Trophy. 

For the third day, the wind and sea conditions from the early hours left no room for doubt and the race committee led by Juan Castañeda and Carlos Muñoz Villareal raised the flag of cancellation and the end of the championship. Of the five scheduled days, only two were sailed, but the four races held left a very good feeling among the fleet given the demands of one of the most regatta-rich bays in the world.

The veterans of the Snipe class are now handing over the baton to the juniors of the iQFOil Olympic board, who are competing for the Under 17 and Under 19 World Championships from this Monday until Saturday 28th of October in the same waters, an event organized by the Andalusian Sailing Federation and the international iQFOil class.
