The Sea Council and Water Cycle, Juan Manuel Lafuente, has gathered with the association of “Casetes de Vorera” of Menorca and has conveyed to its president, Rita Pabst, its intention to comply with the Proposición No de Ley (PNL) approved by the Parliament during the last legislature, thus guaranteeing the protection and legal security of these emblematic buildings.

YOU HAVE ALL OF OUR FULL PROGRAMS HERE!The council has highlighted the importance of these traditional buildings and points out that, with coordination with the Councils and the Town Halls, there is progress being made in the preparation of a catalog for the preservation of the “casetes de vorera”. Once these buildings are registered in this catalog, they will be protected from any attempt to demolish it, guaranteeing its preservation and maintenance.
“It is essential that we protect the pillars that have built our identity. The “casetes de vorera” are a heritage of our past, it is a mirage of our routes and symbolizes the union between our people and the sea. To conserve them is not only to save these buildings, but to also affirm our essence” points out the council Lafuente.
Furthermore, the “casetes de vorera”, highlights the protection of other traditional buildings like shipyards, docks and individual constructions connected to the scenery and to the idiosyncrasies of the Balearic Islands. These structures represent generations of tradition and culture, being live testimonies of the relation that the local communities have maintained with the sea all along these years.
