The second phase comes in strong of the 59th edition of the Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau

The second phase of the Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau, which this year celebrates its 59th edition, has started this Thursday at the Club Nàutic S’Arenal (CNA) with an overflowing of sailors, families and passionate of the sea. In a young, lively and competitive atmosphere, the club has hosted an exciting day of racing in the following categories Optimist Sub13, Optimist Sub16, ILCA 4, ILCA 6 and 420, gathering about half a million of sailors that have competed at nearby waters of the club.

During the journey, the CNA has had a great experience, with young athletes, families and passionate people of the nautical world crowding the cafeteria and the rest of the club's facilities from the morning. The nerves and concentration for the competition have been mixed with excitement and energy of the young ones. The Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau is famous among the sailors for being one of the most fun and special races of the year, as it is celebrated in the middle of high season, serving as the starting signal for the nautical season.

The races started at 15.00h, when there was a sound symbolizing the beginning of the first race. The weather has been nice, a fantastic ‘embat’ of 13 knots of intensity which has gone down throughout the afternoon until the final races with a wind of 7 to 8 knots. Thanks to the wind it was able to fulfill the program.

This second and last phase of this edition of the race most long-lived at the CNA begins after celebrating last weekend, with great success, the races corresponded to the Optimist Sub11, Optimist D (initiation), IQ Foil, Techno 293, Musto Skiff and Formula Windsurf, with the participation of nearly 200 sailors. The sailing races will be prolonged until Sunday the 27th, when it will take place a festive and crowded prize-giving ceremony to the winners of different categories.

As a new feature,  on Sunday, the parents of the sailors will be able to see up close how their children sail  thanks to a boat lent for this purpose by Sa Calma Boats.

As well, the traditional sailing will have its protagonist in the gathering, as Saturday 26th of midday there will be celebrated races of lateen sailing, in modalities of Regatta, Llaüts and Open sea from 13.00h. The more social side of sailing will also have its moment, with races on Saturday for the cruise category, which will compete in ORC, from 13.30h.

The gathering will feature other parallel activities, among the XX Travesía Sa Milla CNA - Cala Blava, an emblematic open water swimming event that will take place on August 26 from 9 am on the beach of Es Caló and whose benefits will go to the association ELA Balears.

In total, there will have participated at the 59th edition of the Great Day of Sailing - Bufete Frau more than 700 sailors of first level on board of 575 ships of the categories of  Optimist, 420, ILCA 6, ILCA 4, Open IQ Foil, Techno 293, Formula Windsurf, Musto Skiff, lateen and cruise sailing. They will do so representing dozens of nautical clubs from all over Spain. The absolute winner will get their name on the Trofeo Rei en Jaume III Ciutat de Llucmajor.
