The second stage (April 25-26) will bring the competition to Ibiza and will mark the return of another Spanish city to the World Aquatics circuit after 18 years; the last time being in 2007 when Seville hosted a race in this category.
The third race (June 14-15) will be held in Setúbal (Portugal), which has hosted open water races since 2007, including the competitions for the Olympic Marathon swimming qualification in 2012, 2016, and 2021.
The venue is located next to the Sado Estuary Natural Reserve, in the Atlantic Ocean, a challenging race due to the ocean currents and occasional breaking waves.
Another island, Sardinia, will host the fourth race. It will take place in the Gulf of Aranci on October 10 and 11, located on the east coast and which has also hosted the race in the last two seasons.
As World Aquatics stated in a press release, the venue for the fifth and final stop of the 2025 World Cup will be announced later.
Last season, Brazilian Ana Marcela Cunha, a seven-time world champion who has competed in the World Cup for the past eighteen years, was the dominant force, while in the men's category, Frenchman Marc-Antoine Olivier clinched the title for the first time.
In the 2024 World Cup sprint rankings, Italian Ginevra Taddeucci was crowned champion in the women's category, while Olivier added the men's sprint title to his overall crown.
