The Spanish sailing team classifies in seven categories for the Paris 2024

After ten days of competition, the Championship of the World of Olympic Clases awards Spain with seven spots in total: 470, 49er, 49er FX, Nacra 17, iQFOiL M, iQFOiL F and ILCA 7.

As it only happens a year before the Olympic Games, the international federation of sailing has brought together the dispute of the world center of all disciplines in a single event, with a lot more much more sporty than the already important podiums of each Olympic category. The starting point of the final sprint to Paris 2024, it was the first qualifying regatta to determine which countries will be represented in the sailing events of the Olympic Games.

In this sense, Spain passes with a grade and has already been classified in ten categories, positioning itself as one of the greatest international sailing powers; they have exceeded the number of spots obtained by two countries. The sailor of the Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, Nacho Baltasar, has been the one to get the place for Spain in the iQFoil Mens category, and the sailor from the Club Nàutico S’Arenal, Paula Barceló has done what she can with her colleague Tamara Echegoyen in 49er FX.

After these big results, the director of olympic preparations of the Real Federación Española de Vela, Francisco Gil has assured that “we hoped to get between seven and eight places and we have seven, for which the result is great for me. Spain has always been one of the first countries at an international level, but it is one of the first times that we have been classified with so many categories from the beginning. I think this justifies the work of the technicians, trainers and sailors, that have overcome to reach this result”.

In terms of the three categories not classified in for the Paris 2024 for Spain, the following opportunity for ILCA 6 will be in the european 2024, which will put in risk two places to win, meanwhile for the Kite Mens and Women will take place at the European Championship, with one place for each modality, to dispute in less than a month. The final playoff  will be at next year's Hyères Week.
