The 2024 season began in April in Palma, from where the fleet traveled to Newport, Rhode Island, to celebrate two consecutive events, including the Rolex TP52 World Championship, World TP52 class. Adding up the partials from the first three races of the year, the provisional leader is “Gladiator” of British owner Tony Langley and Argentine helmsman Guillermo Parada, who also comes to Puerto Portals as the new TP52 world champion.
This event will see the debut of two unprecedented teams: the Brazilian “Crioula” and the French “Teasing Machine,” two new projects in the 52 SUPER SERIES arena, but with a lot of experience in other competitions. Samuel Albrecht, tactician of the “Crioula,” highlighted during the presentation what this event means for his team: “We are very happy to be in Puerto Portals and to be part of the 52 SUPER SERIES family. Being here was a dream for our team, and we have achieved it.” Eric de Turckheim, owner and helmsman of the “Teasing Machine” also expressed his enthusiasm: “We are a team experienced in offshore racing, and we are proud to be here among the best Grand Prix racing fleet in the world. We are always looking for challenges, and this is undoubtedly a huge challenge to face.”
Puerto Portals will also mark the first appearance of the new “Provezza XI,” launched just a few weeks ago. Nacho Postigo, navigator of the veteran Turkish team and one of the top experts in the Bay of Palma, anticipates a good week of racing: “Fortunately, the island is practically infallible with the thermal winds, and this week we should see between seven and 15 knots of wind every day. It looks very promising. Sometimes we will have to wait, but I think we can complete the entire program. It will be a great week, as always.”
Corinna Graf, CEO of Puerto Portals, has highlighted the close relationship between Puerto Portals and the 52 SUPER SERIES: “It is an honor and a joy to be part of this regatta and the 52 SUPER SERIES family. It is the ninth consecutive edition, I feel like part of the family and that Puerto Portals is part of their family, and that honors us greatly.” On the other hand, the CEO of 52 SUPER SERIES, Agustín Zulueta has valued the contribution of the circuit in its traditional visit to Puerto Portals: “This regatta attracts about 500 people from different parts of the world between the organization and teams. This means a very large return not only for Calviá but for all of Mallorca. We can estimate a direct impact of the regatta of around five million euros, plus the opportunity for all these crew members to become ambassadors of Puerto Portals and the Bay of Palma so they bring their families to visit Mallorca in the future.” The event gathers teams from Germany, Brazil, the United States, France, Hong Kong, England, South Africa, Thailand, and Turkey.
