The new venue, along with the introduction of new racing classes, has sparked increased interest in joining the action in Palma Bay.
"We are always looking for new ways to enhance and elevate the Superyacht Cup Palma experience for owners, captains, and partners, and establishing a base at the newly developed Club de Mar-Mallorca does exactly that," said event director Kate Branagh.
"The Superyacht Cup is known for bringing together all competing superyachts at the dock in the heart of Palma, and competitor interest is at an all-time high."
The SYC’s new partner, Club de Mar-Mallorca, was founded over half a century ago, in 1972, and is renowned for its facilities and services tailored to the needs of large sailing yachts. It is currently in the fifth year of a 360º redevelopment plan, which has already delivered modern, sophisticated, and sustainable upgrades to both the docks and clubhouse.
The ability to once again gather all the yachts, owners, and crews together at the Race Village has played a key role in the strong level of interest—both from new entrants and veteran competitors of the Superyacht Cup Palma.
One direct result is the likely introduction of a new class for the increasingly prominent “Baltic 68 Café Racers”. Designed by Mallorcan naval architect Javier Jaudenes, these striking 20.7m sloops are already making a name for themselves on the racing circuit, with "Ganesha" and "Open Season" expected to be strong SYC contenders in June.
Additionally, Hoek Design entries may have their own dedicated class, with the 42m "Vijonara" and 38.7m "Atalante" looking set to return after competing last year, alongside the newly launched "Linnea Aurora," which recently joined the "Truly Classic 128" fleet.
Other 2024 competitors who could return include the 39m Tripp-designed "Cervo" and the 24m Wally Yacht "Rose", a two-time consecutive champion with the chance to secure a historic third victory—a first in SYC history.
However, "Rose" will face tough but friendly competition from several members of the fleet, particularly the debuting "Gelliceaux", also designed by Farr Yacht Design and SYC.
"The owner, crew, and I are looking forward to debuting 'Gelliceaux' at the Superyacht Cup Palma this summer. It’s one of the top events in the superyacht world and a fantastic racing venue with an equally enjoyable social atmosphere, which seems set to be even better this year with all the yachts moored together at the new Club de Mar-Mallorca venue. We can’t wait!" said Clive Walker, captain of the Southern Wind 108, which has already proven its potential with an overall victory at the St. Barth Bucket 2024.
With the 2025 Notice of Race now published and official entries open, the Superyacht Cup Palma organizers are eager to join forces with Club de Mar-Mallorca.
Event director Kate Branagh added:
"At the same time, we remain indebted to our long-standing partners, including St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca, Pendennis, Marinepool, North Sails, Pantaenius, RSB Rigging Solutions, Southern Spars, and, of course, the Real Club Náutico de Palma for their world-class regatta management expertise."
