The sustainability will be the protagonist of the XXII edition of the day of Canoe at Es Nàutic

It is now open the inscription list for the next XXII edition of the Day of Canoe, which will take place next Saturday 2nd of September, and that organizes the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni (CNSA), as part of the festivities of Sant Bartomeu.

 A new feature to this edition, stands out the protagonist role which will perform sustainability in the course of the day, as the Sport area of the CNSA has developed a protocol of rules and environment recommendations, so that this activity does not leave a mark in its surroundings.

The Day of Canoe is considered an ecological activity, sustainable and involved with the environment, which is developed in a fragile space, like the Bay of Portmany. For this reason, the organization will supply water to all participants, but the containers must be taken from home. This way, the usage of plastic in the facilities is not permitted and it is recommended that the participants take a cup or a water flask. When the race is done, there will be drinks offered in reusable cups.

It is also not allowed to smoke in the facilities and it asked to use the water thoughtfully in the shower and changing rooms. The CNSA also is reducing the maximum use of paper, so the inscriptions, information and management of the event is only online. The period of inscriptions closes the following 31st of August.

The route, as per usual, will start at the facilities of the CNSA, with direction to Racó del Salt d’en Portes, next to the Aquarium at Cap Blanc, to later on return to Es Nàutic. The activity is directed for the young ones from 12 years old and adults, even though the ones between 12 and 16 need to be accompanied. The activity has a duration of about 3 to 4 hours and starts from 9 to 9.30 with the registration and control of access to the facilities at the CNSA. The boarding of canoes will be done between 9.30 and 10h, and the route will begin from 10.30 until 13h, approximately. At 13.30h, at the facilities of the Sport area of the CNSA, there will be a raffle with dozens of prizes among the participants, including a sea kayak.

It is also recommended to take a full set of clothes (swimming clothes, licra or t-shirt, shorts, shoes or rubber shoes or of neoprene, sun cream and a hat), as well as a change of clothes, towel, water and a snack.

In the year 2000, Pepín Valdés and Neus Mateu, delegate and technician, respectively, of the section of Canoe of the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni, suggested to organize the 1st edition of the Day of Canoe, that started from Caló des Moro in direction to Cala Salada, with a total of 60 participants. The event had a great reception and a popular character that, until this day, is maintained. Not many things have had to be modified from the first experience, other than the starting and arriving points, and alternative routes. In the years of 2019 and 2020, due to the construction of Es Nàutic and because of the pandemic of covid-19 , there was no option but to rest. But with returning to normality, in 2021, the XX edition was continued and in the following years as well.
