The event will see 28 boats from 13 countries competing from Thursday to this coming Sunday. Young sailors from the RCNP's youth program paraded carrying the flags of the represented nations, accompanied by the music of the band of the General Command of the Balearic Islands, which played the national anthem during the raising of the Spanish flag.
The president of the Real Club Náutico de Palma, Rafael Gil, highlighted in his welcome speech to owners and crew the close relationship between the club and the Nautor Swan shipyard, noting that "it is part of a nautical tradition that began with the incorporation of the first boats of this brand into the King's Cup in 2008."
"This relationship," he added, "has been strengthened over the years, with the organization of world championships and various editions of the Nations Trophy, an international regatta that was born here seven years ago and whose evolution we have proudly followed."
Leonardo Ferragamo, president of Nautor Swan, praised the "incredible organizational work" and emphasized that every time he visits the Balearic capital to compete in a regatta, he understands the reasons for the reputation enjoyed by the Real Club Náutico de Palma. He stressed that Palma, its club, and its bay are "a benchmark" for the Swan fleet and announced that the city will continue to be part of the international circuit next year.
The boats "Nadir" and "Pez de Abril" will be the only two Spanish representatives in the competition.
The "Nadir," helmed by the Majorcan Pedro Vaquer, already knows what it is like to reach the summit of the ClubSwan 42 World Championship, a title he won in 2022 with his team from the Club de Vela Port d'Andratx. For this occasion, he will once again have a top-level crew, with the Canarian Rayco Tabares as a standout figure.
The "Pez de Abril," owned by the Murcian José María Meseguer, will also compete for the title in the ClubSwan 42 class. This boat has achieved an excellent track record in the Bay of Palma, with three victories in the Copa del Rey MAPFRE. Its crew includes the tactician Antonio "Talpi" Piris and the Majorcan navigator Elvira Llabrés.
The scoring races will begin on Thursday and run until Sunday, October 27, with a maximum of eight races planned, including a possible coastal race.
This is the second world championship that the Real Club Náutico de Palma has hosted this year, following the Sandberg Estates J/70 Worlds, held a month ago, which brought together a hundred crews.
