First day of the final series at the Lanzarote iQFOiL Games. The wind, which blew with peaks of more than 15 knots of intensity from early in the morning, favored the 160 windsurfers participating in the last big event of the year to give a great show on the race course located in front of Marina Rubicón.

With the fleet already divided into the gold and silver groups, the leaders Sharon Kantor and Luuc Van Opzeeland continue at the top of the general rankings and the Spaniards Pilar Lamadrid and Nacho Baltasar remain in the fight for the podium in the top 5.

The sailor from Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, Nacho Baltasar, who was second, suffered a broken board after a collision and was unable to compete in the second race of the day, although he was able to finish the day and stay in the fight from fifth position with a 19-3-29-7 record in the other four races.

"After the collision I had to come to port to change boards and I missed that leg, but I was able to get out quickly and arrived just in time for the next race, which was the best race of the day with a third place. In general the feeling is very good with respect to the fleet, which is coming very strong. I felt very comfortable and we had very good qualities. Now it's time to keep pushing because it's been a very tough championship", declared the future representative of Spain at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Thus, the first day of the final series resulted in a very tight general classification. The pressure to get into the top ten meant that practically the entire fleet was ahead of the rest of the field, taking the starts before the horn, forcing the Committee to repeat the procedure on several occasions.

For the men's fleet, the Race Committee completed up to five races, which allowed Dutchman Luuc Van Opzeeland to establish himself at the top of the leaderboard with a comfortable lead over his pursuers.

On Thursday, the fourth day of competition, the Olympic windsurfing fleet will compete in the Marathon race, which will have double points and a course that will take the 160 participants to the island of Lobos via Punta del Papagayo. It will be quite a spectacle with a weather forecast that predicts winds from the northeast that could exceed 20 knots in intensity.
