After five days of intense competition in the waters of the Bay of Palma, the top ten in each discipline were scheduled to finish the job in the Medal Races (or Medal Series for iQFOiL and Formula Kite), which would decide the podiums of the 53 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Iberostar and the title of overall winner.

The last day of the prestigious Mallorcan Olympic sailing competition, in which nearly 850 boats and more than 1,100 athletes representing 76 countries participated, had light winds that only allowed the finals in six disciplines (49er, Nacra 17, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, Formula Kite Men's and Women's) to be sailed. The 470 Mixed, 49er FX and iQFOiL Men and Women had to be canceled.

In 49er, the Medal Race confirmed the dominance of Diego Botín and Florian Trittel. The Cantabrian-Catalan duo, who scored a second in the decisive final and managed to win the men's skiff with six points over the runners-up, the Uruguayans Hernán Umpierre and Fernando Diz, who took the win in this double points final.

In 470 Mixed, which could not compete in the Medal Race, Jordi Xammar and Nora Brugman won the silver medal thanks to their consistency throughout the championship. The Catalans, the reigning world champions of the speciality, finished two firsts and a second, as well as three fourths, in the nine races of the event. The victory went to the Frenchmen Camille Lecointre and Jeremie Mion.

In iQFOiL Men, the sailor from Club Nàutic Sa Ràpita, Nacho Baltasar, was unable to compete in the Medal Series due to lack of wind. A seventh place finish is a great result for the sailor, whose progression over the last year has been excellent. Poland's Pawel Tarnowski, current world runner-up, and Frenchmen Nicolas Goyard and Yun Pouliquen made up the final podium in this discipline at the 53 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Iberostar.

In Women's Formula Kite, Australian Breiana Whitehead won after taking the victory in the final. In the Men's Formula Kite, the medal series did not start because the wind window would not have left enough time to complete all the heats. With the prevailing conditions in the bay of Palma and the time limit, the race committee decided to limit the day to the final, with the first four classified. Singapore's Max Maeder reaffirmed his mastery of the kite and took gold in the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by Iberostar for the second consecutive year.

In Nacra 17, the Italians Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti, Olympic gold medallists at Tokyo 2020, had already won the 53 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Iberostar on Friday, with the Medal Race still to come.

British Micky Beckett had already been crowned winner of the Trofeo Princesa Sofia Mallorca by Iberostar in the ILCA 7 class, his third consecutive title in the great Mallorcan regatta.

In ILCA 6, the title went to Hungary's Mária Érdi, continuing her excellent run after winning this year's European Championship and last year's World Championship.

The trophy ceremony took place on Saturday at 20:00 in Ses Voltes, at the foot of Palma Cathedral. In addition to crowning the winners of each discipline and the overall winner, the event served to bid farewell to the more than 1,100 athletes who competed in this record-breaking edition in an Olympic year. Several of them will return next year with their Paris 2024 medals around their necks.

The 53 Trofeo Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Iberostar reaffirmed its status as a world reference among Olympic sailing competitions, an unmissable event in the calendar of international teams, and which in this edition was decisive for the Olympic teams of several countries. The Club Nàutic S'Arenal, the Club Marítimo San Antonio de la Playa and the Real Club Náutico de Palma once again passed with flying colours in the organization of this enormous event.

The 53 Trofeo S.A.R. Princesa Sofía Mallorca by Iberostar is the first qualifying event for the Sailing World Cup 2024.
