The vessel of the Navy “Juan Sebastián de Elcano”, return to Spain

This Friday 21st of July, hundred and eighty nine days after it started the XCV Cruise Ship of Instruction, the school flagship “Juan Sebastián de Elcano” returned to Cadiz.

The vessel has docked this morning at the pier of “Marqués de Comillas” where they had a small ceremony of welcoming with the presence of the mayor of Cadiz and the Admiral Ignacio Villanueva Serrano, chief of the Major State of the fleet.

During the journey, which began the 14th of January, the crew of “Juan Sebastián de Elcano” has visited the harbors of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Punta Arenas (Chile), El Callao (Perú), Cartagena de Indias (Colombia), Puerto Limón (Costa Rica), Pensacola (EE.UU.) and New York (EE.UU.).

During the XCV Cruise Ship of Instruction boarded the ship 74 midshipmen promotions 425 of the General Corps and 155 of the Marine Infantry, that the last 12th of July , arrived at Marin they joined again the new Military Naval School, once they completed the goal of acquiring a six month naval the formation which no other school could offer them.

In this trip the vessel of the Navy accomplished, for the first time in its history, to cross over sailing the mythical Cape Horn. This fact striked a small and big milestone for the story of this boat. Cape Horn is one of the geographical places most known and feared of the world. The fame is due to its intense winds that lashes the area, the big waves and icebergs, these elements that do not prevent it from being an unavoidable step on many trade routes and a goal for adventurers who sail the seas. 
During its brief stay at the harbor of Cadiz the vessel “Juan Sebastián de Elcano” will be open to visits to the public from 11.00 to 17.00, and then will sail to La Carraca.

The ship is in command of the captain Manuel García Ruiz, and the following 27th of July will be handed over to captain Luis Carreras-Presas do Campo.
