The waste control system of Spillcontrol, the finalist of Premi del Cercle d’Economia

Garau Ingenieros has presented its innovative security projects and protection of the port environment to the Premi del Cercle d’Economia de Mallorca, , that was rewarded of the ideas committed to improving society and the environment.

Spillcontrol, one of the initiatives of Garau Ingenieros, that focuses on the control of waste through fixed cameras and artificial intelligence, has positioned itself finalist in this edition of Premi del Cercle d’Economia de Mallorca, as it has been “valued positively” by the director committee.

The goal for Spillcontrol is to develop a system that is economic, efficient and easy to manage the control of waste. “If one has such a system, the harbor facilities would be able to fight in a way much more efficient to limit the waste in their waters” assures Garau Ingenieros. In the end, these wastes have hidden costs for the harbors, like the increase in cost of the dredging operations of the contamination of the sediments of the harbor, dirt and deterioration of the boats, etc.

Spillcontrol allows to design management strategies for more efficiency based on a strict knowledge of the frequency and duration of the waste, its location and characteristics. Furthermore, the facts of Spillcontrol can be used to define indicators such as the number of detected waste in the systems of environmental management, as for instance the ISO 14001 and this way to make a management follow-up through the evolution of the indicator, selecting the optimum measures.

The service of Spillcontrol offers to administrations, institutions, companies and dealers so that they have a scope of action in their harbors. At the moment, the Balearic Islands will be a pioneer with the future of the installation of this waste control system at harbors in three nautical clubs of the islands, but the idea is to implant it at an international level.
