The works of adequacy of the Club Nàutic Portitxol reach their home stretch

After several months immersed in a necessary improvement and remodeling plan of its facilities, the Club Nàutic Portitxol (CNP) is now facing the final stretch of the works on land, started last summer under the concession extension with investment negotiated with the Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) after the end of the club's concession in December 2022.

"The project has been improved by 30% over the original idea, including improvements that were not in the initial proposal," explains Pep Santander, president of the CNP. "Among other things, we have sanitized and improved the septic tanks, to make sure we avoid bad odors in the future. We've also reorganized the club's security and service entrance system, incorporating new cameras to bring the total to 14, and implementing a modern security center in the club's offices to centralize surveillance," he adds.

The club's restaurant will also remain closed until February 29th for internal adaptation works, and by the end of the month the works will have been completed both in the club and in the restaurant, thus concluding the inconvenience for users and members. "From the board of directors of the CNP, we want to thank everyone for their patience and collaboration, which will be rewarded with a club prepared for the challenges and needs of the future," says Santander. 

"The philosophy is to open the club to the public, as could already be seen with the first part of the works, in which the terrace of the club's restaurant was enlarged and opened to the street, eliminating barriers," indicates the president of the CNP, Pep Santander. "This project allows us to improve and modernize our facilities and gain time in order to apply for new extensions or concessions in the future, trusting in a positive evolution of the legal, social and political landscape in the coming years," he adds. The works are part of the project to extend the Paseo Marítimo de Palma from the Club de Mar to the Molinar, which is being promoted by the APB.

In any case, the project, beyond being a commitment to the future of the club and a necessary facelift, modernization and improvement of its facilities, involves improvements that will benefit all users, such as the elevator and accessibility systems for people with mobility problems to facilitate their access to the social lounge; the improvement and enlargement of the pontoons, with 60 new moorings, which, since it is permitted to allocate up to 15% of the total volume of moorings to transients, will serve to increase the club's income for future expenses; new turrets to supply electricity and water to the boats; new security cameras throughout the club to improve surveillance; a new perimeter water collection system in the slipway esplanade, while burying the entrance of services coming from the street, such as water, electricity and fiber connectivity, and a strong advance in environmental issues, with the installation of solar panels, the improvement of the waste collection system, the installation of green areas and the implementation of the award-winning "spill control" system, which, with a system of cameras and data analysis software, is capable of activating alarms in the event of detecting unusual levels of water contamination, warning if it exceeds a certain level.

The three-year extension with investment granted by the APB expires on December 16, 2025, but the club's intention is to present itself to the authorities with partially renovated facilities and to be able to get back to square one in order to work on obtaining extensions and even a new concession.
