On August 31st at 9 a.m., canoeing enthusiasts in Ibiza are invited to participate in the XXIII edition of the Day of the Canoe, which, as every summer, is organized by the Club Nàutic Sant Antoni (CNSA) as part of the Sant Bartomeu festivities.

In this special day, where there is no competition but rather a group tour around the Portmany bay, about a hundred people usually participate. The only requirement is that participants must be at least 12 years old and know how to swim. The event is dedicated to the environmental instructor Paolo Dell’Agnolo, who passed away in May at the age of 42.

Dell’Agnolo, through his company Kayak Ibiza, had been involved in organizing the event since 2015, when he began collaborating with CNSA in the operation that the club then had on the s’Arenal beach where kayak activities were carried out. When the Day of the Canoe arrived, in which he participated up to the last edition, he also provided boats for those registered who did not have their own. “We have always had a great relationship, providing inflatables and logistical resources in activities that we have organized in recent years. He even acted as an instructor at the club in certain courses and sports events. Paolo was a great connoisseur of all the coastlines, a person very sensitive to the environment and everything around him, and above all, a great person,” explains Enrique Mas, sports director of CNSA.

Registrations can be made online between August 20 and 30, and cost 5 euros if bringing your own canoe or 10 euros if needing one provided. The fee includes a commemorative T-shirt and race number. The route will take place inside the bay of Sant Antoni, starting and finishing at the CNSA Sports Area, with Racó des Salt d’en Portes as the midpoint. Once finished, a raffle with dozens of prizes will be held among all participants, including a new kayak.
