The Balearic Islands are home to a nautical business network enviable for other coastal destinations, representing a high percentage of the Balearic GDP and generating more than 4,000 jobs. Despite this, this sector is not exempt from the generalized problem of the lack of qualified personnel, which together with the lack of knowledge of the population, translates into greater difficulty in attracting new workers.

Balearic Marine Cluster has participated for the third consecutive year in the SOIB's "Dual Training for Strategic Sectors" call for proposals, which allows the provision of vocational certificates that combine training and paid work in companies belonging to sectors classified as strategic.

The four certificates that make up the training project promoted by BMC are in Painting, Carpentry, Fibre and Composites and Auxiliary Operations, which includes mechanics and electronics, rigging and sailing; and have a duration of twelve months.

During this period, a combination of 35% practical/theoretical training is given at the S'Algar center in Palma and 65% work experience through a work contract in one of the 36 companies participating in the project, for which the student receives a salary and pays social security contributions for the whole year.

The dual training project promoted by Balearic Marine Cluster has generated 88 new jobs in the nautical sector.

Balearic Marine Cluster, SOIB and the S'Algar Training Centre have worked together in the development of a comprehensive multichannel advertising campaign with online and offline actions to capture the interest of young people and carry out not only a dissemination of these certificates of professionalism, but also of the job and training opportunities available in the nautical sector.

This campaign has resulted in the registration of more than 600 young people, of which about two hundred were cited in the selection days held last September, where companies and interested young people met.

The 36 companies participating in the project, which cover various areas of the value chain of the nautical sector, have played a key role in the development of the project and the recruitment of students, demonstrating their need and interest in finding qualified personnel and giving young people the opportunity to work in a highly competitive sector.
