All belong to the Under 19 Men's Youth category. The IWO is taking place this weekend in the bay of Portmany, organized by Club Nàutic Sant Antoni and the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation.
The 68 sailors have traveled on the tourist ferry to today's scheduled race field in the area of Cala Bassa. It is worth remembering that in the IWO, competitors board to move to the best place to conduct the races, depending on the wind conditions in the different competition areas. The majority of participants come from the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Valencian Community, Castilla la Mancha, and the Balearic Islands, with the latter contributing the most participants, including seven island racers: Marcos Colomar, Alan Benlloch, Paco Fernández, Javier Morillo, Daniel Alarcón, Enrique Mas, and María Costa.
Wingfoil is a rapidly growing sport that is positioned as a leader to become an Olympic discipline by Los Angeles 2028. It features a competitive format divided into three modalities: Freestyle, Waves, and Racing. The Freestyle and Wave formats are usually held together at wave spots, while Racing is held at spots with flat sea, under a course format and options more complex than the rest. Additionally, wingfoil is opening up many sports-tourism destinations internationally, including Ibiza. The wind conditions throughout the year make the island an ideal place, thanks to the possibility of different spots around the island, depending on the wind direction and sea conditions. The bay of Portmany is, without a doubt, one of the best areas, with the environment of Platges de Comte and es Pinet as wave spots, and the interior for Racing and beginners.
Club Nàutic Sant Antoni has embraced this modality and is part of the Balearic circuit, hosting a test that, on this occasion, coincides with the IWO, which is also the Spanish Championship. It is also worth noting that the leading wingfoil sports equipment brand Stardboard has joined the event as one of its main sponsors, along with the Insular Council through the Ibiza brand and the Sant Antoni Town Hall.
