Technology, science, education and social responsibility come together in the project of the renovated sailing boat 'Galaxie', which after an investment of 600,000 euros has become the first 100% electric school boat of more than 20 meters in the Balearic Islands, with the mission of promoting the protection of the Balearic sea.

This emblematic boat, which was donated to the Joves Navegants Foundation to teach and educate disadvantaged young people in the islands, renews its image and incorporates cutting-edge zero-emission technology equipment in order to promote research and awareness of the protection of the marine environment.

TrueWorld, an entity specialized in implementing technological solutions for decarbonisation, is leading this project which, among other aspects, includes changing the combustion engine of the sailing boat 'Galaxie' for an electric one from PhoenixOne.

The Love The Mediterranean initiative has presented in Alcudiamar, this school sailboat of 21 meters long and 5 meters wide, whose electrification has involved an investment of 409,000 euros, as explained the CEO and co-founder of TrueWorld, Marco Mendoza, who reiterated the joint effort of institutions, companies, professionals and partners who have made possible the transformation of the sailboat to start its new stage.

After fifteen months of work to convert the boat into 100% electric, the 'Galaxie' will set sail for Palma thanks to renewable energy to take part in the Palma International Boat Show. It has batteries with an autonomy of between eight and ten hours, flexible solar panels incorporated into the sails and wind engines that are charged while sailing, explained Mendoza.

The vessel will begin its first scientific mission this Tuesday morning, which is expected to culminate with its arrival at the Palma International Boat Show (PIBS) this weekend at Palma's Moll Vell.

At the Palma boat show, the public will be able to visit the yacht and learn more about this non-profit initiative, which aims to bring together technology, innovation, science and social impact, fundamental to corporate social responsibility, as stated by True World.

The PhoenixOne shipyard has been in charge of the reconversion of the engine, and Banca March, Berrow Project, Alcudiamar, Quantum Sails and Omni Access, among other entities, have collaborated in various lines of this initiative, which aims to reach Ibiza, where it is also expected to host talks and workshops on protection and awareness of the sea.

The UIB, PQI and CIFP, as well as other organizations and foundations such as Marilles and Mar de Fondo, have also participated in the renovation of the boat, whose promoters aspire to participate in regattas to position it as a benchmark for boats that sail with renewable energies.
