Next Saturday, November 16, the Club Nàutic Portitxol (CNP) will organize the Balearic Sea Kayak Cup - Portitxol Trophy.
STAY UP TO DATE OF WHAT WE DO AND RECEIVE OUR NEWSLETTERThis is the first regional competition of this discipline for the 2024-2025 season, and it is the first time the club is hosting it, thanks to the work done by Omar Calzón, CNP's Canoeing Coordinator, who has gained the support and confidence of the Balearic Canoeing Federation (FBP) after organizing the Portitxol Trophy for the last three years with excellent results and magnificent organization.
"If the weather conditions allow it, we will do a Downwind, an exciting open sea canoeing mode consisting of moving from side to side, taking advantage of the waves and surfing with the canoe," explains Calzón, who has obtained permission from the authorities for participants to cross the Bay of Palma, from Illetas military beach to the CNP, during the competition.
"For this, we also have the collaboration and support of the Military Sports Club Es Fortí, which will allow us to use their facilities for the start, and the Red Cross, which will provide a boat and an ambulance to ensure the safety of the fleet at all times," adds the Canoeing Coordinator of the CNP.
A participation of two hundred paddlers from all the Balearic Islands and of all ages, from 14 to almost 70 years old, is expected, who will undertake a 9-kilometer route. Among the participants, some members of the CNP's canoeing team will be present.
The day will start with the delegates' meeting at 8 am and conclude around 2 pm, when the corresponding awards ceremony will be held, accompanied by a light meal at the CNR facilities.
"For us, it is a great pride to have the confidence of the FBP to organize this important event, which represents a fascinating and demanding organizational challenge," adds Calzón. "I will have to be personally on board a boat to be in constant contact with the pilots of the Bay of Palma and the staff of the Balearic Port Authority (APB), informing them of the fleet's position at all times and ensuring that the entry and exit of large ships do not interfere with the regatta."
