This first phase, awarded for 3.9 million euros financed with European and AETIB (Agency for Tourism Strategy of the Balearic Islands) funds, will modernize 650 metres of the promenade. The initial two-year renovation plan has been reduced thanks to the commitment of the winning bidder, Amer & Sons, to just seven months, between October this year and May 2025. The works will be carried out in winter and will be completed in time for next year's high season. After that, it will be time to plan, tender and award the contract for the refurbishment of the second section of the promenade.

The Consistory has met in the Sala Palmanova to present the project, detail the technical details and agree with the entities and associations the action plan, condensed into seven months to minimize the impact on the establishments in the area. The following private sector representatives took part in the meeting: EMYTRA (Calvià Businessmen and Workers Association); ACOTUR (Association of Traders and Tourist Service Companies of Mallorca); ABONE (Balearic Association of Leisure and Entertainment); CAEB (Confederation of Business Associations of the Balearic Islands); and the Hotel Association of Palmanova-Magaluf.

The project consists of the remodelling of the seafront promenade built in 1990, which then united for the first time the entire first line of Magaluf beach, allowing long walks overlooking the sea. The aim of the current remodelling is to improve and update a mature tourist area that is immersed in a process of renovation, from both the public and private spheres.

The remodelling of the promenade starts at the corner of the Nikki Beach to the well-known Pirates square, in addition to the remodelling of the central road. The promenade will be rearranged and beautified and all its infrastructure and services will be renewed, such as the lighting, the sewage, rainwater (with a collection tank for irrigation) and drinking water networks, the irrigation network and the street furniture. A network will be created to harness rainwater run-off for irrigation.

The project includes the partial relocation of existing palm trees and the planting of new ones to create small oasis areas, instead of the current aligned arrangement. Artificial dunes will also be placed on the sand of the beach, on top of which Mediterranean riverside shrubs will be planted to fix them permanently.

On the other hand, it is worth remembering that the Magaluf promenade will soon change its name to Gabriel Escarrer Juliá in recognition of the founder of the Meliá Hotels International group.
