Young Ibizans discover the Balearic Sea through the programme “Jóvens per la mar!”

Last Thursday took place the first outing of the new edition of the "Jóvens per la mar!" programme, a project of the Club Náutico de Ibiza started in 2001 and recovered this year 2024.

This new edition aims to bring the Balearic sea closer to the youth of Ibiza, with special emphasis on its 25th anniversary as a World Heritage Site.

Other maritime aspects have also been dealt with, such as lighthouses and defense towers, characteristic of the Ibizan coast, nautical knots and the biodiversity that inhabits the crystalline waters of Ibiza.

For this occasion, an educational dossier has been created that gathers all the aspects of the programme, accompanied by the scientific illustrations made by Lara Chapuis, doctor in Biology and local scientific illustrator, to which the knowledge of the local marine biologist, Agnès Torres, has been added.

The first year high school students of IES Sa Colomina were the lucky ones to have the opportunity to go sailing aboard the beautiful schooner "Saga". Throughout the morning the students were able to feel part of their own nautical history, learning in situ and through dynamic activities that encouraged all participants.

Some of them highlighted what a great opportunity this initiative was for them, as they had never been able to sail in the island's waters and this programme opened the doors to get to know the Pitiusan sea from a different perspective.

On the other hand, the marine biologist Torres stresses that "the trip has been a great success, the students have been very participative and involved in each of the activities carried out, without a doubt, we have succeeded! We have brought our beloved sea closer to the youth of Ibiza, as we cannot value and care for that which is unknown to us".

After this initiative, sources from Club Náutico Ibiza affirm that they have found an added motivation to continue, with even more enthusiasm if possible, with the programme for the next educational year. And they added that "we hope to continue opening the doors of this programme to all the island's schools, and to bring the sea closer to the new generations".
